The Housing Help Centre (THHC) is seeking 2 volunteers for our Board of Directors for an initial one-year term. THHC has been a housing help centre and social services provider for residents of Scarborough and Toronto since 2000 and currently also serves residents of the York Region. THHC helps residents to understand their housing options, remove barriers to housing such as income, employment, immigration status, health & family crisis, and access affordable rental units throughout Scarborough and the York Region. We provides a range of programs and services designed to meet the diverse and changing needs of tenants and landlords throughout Scarborough and York Region. THHC provides settlement services to newcomers to Canada and helps them integrate into their new home through orientation, information and support services. THHC received the Newcomer Services Award from the Province of Ontario in 2012 for its innovative services to newcomers. Members of THHC s Board of Directors are expected to support the mandate and values of the organization. Board members devote approximately 3-5 hours a month on Board meetings and participation in one Board Committee. The Board usually holds at least one Saturday planning retreat each year. We are seeking Board Members knowledgeable about housing issues in Scarborough and the York Region. We are seeking candidates who complete the diverse skills and qualifications of our current Board members, and our focus this year includes: Candidates living in York Region Candidates knowledge about the Farsi-speaking community Candidates with accounting backgrounds and financial training Candidates with special knowledge of rental housing, urban planning, real estate, or property management. Candidates with previous non-profit Board experience Applicants will be invited to a tour of our centre and information session in early September. Some applicants will be interviewed one-on-one. Successful candidates will be elected to our Board at our Annual General Meeting later in September.
